The present perfect tense is used to express actions or events that are completed in the present or are relevant to the present moment. It often connects the past with the present, indicating that the effects or consequences of an action continue to be felt.
Formation
Affirmative
Subject + have/has + past participle of the verb
Examples
. I have eaten lunch
 .She has visited London
Negative
Subject + have/has + not + past participle of the verb
Examples
They have not (haven’t) finished their work.
He has not (hasn’t) called me.
Interrogative
? Have/Has + subject + past participle of the verb
Examples
? Have you been to Paris
? Has she completed her assignment
When to Use the Present Perfect
a) Unspecified Time Before Now
b) Experiences
: c) Actions with Present Relevance
: d) Actions that Started in the Past and Continue in the Present
Common Time Expressions with the Present Perfect
Just She has just arrived
Yet They haven’t eaten yet Have you called her yet
Ever Have you ever been to Japan
Never I have never seen that movie
Recently I have recently started learning Spanish
For + [duration] We have known each other for ten years
Since + [starting point] She has lived here since 2018
4 Present Perfect vs Simple Past
Use the present perfect when the exact time of the action is not important or relevant
I have eaten sushi Unspecified time
Use the simple past when the exact time is specified
I ate sushi yesterday The time is specified yesterday
Examples in Context
I have never been to Italy but I would love to go someday
She has worked here since 2010
They have already finished their homework
He hasn’t spoken to me for weeks

Use the present perfect when the specific time of the action is not mentioned. The focus is on the action 
itself, not on when it happened.
Example
  I have read that book. (We don't know when the person read the book, but the fact that they read it is 
important.)
. It can describe life experiences without specifying when they occurred
Example:
  She has traveled to five different countries
It can express actions that happened in the past but are still relevant or affect the present
Example
(He still doesn't have his keys right now.) . He has lost his keys
When talking about an action or situation that started in the past and is still ongoing
Example
We have lived here for five years. (They started living here five years ago and continue to live here now.)
